Hotel Tombouktou

For a budget room, we got what we paid for. Nothing was stolen, there were no bed bugs, and hot showers were guaranteed. The air conditioner worked when he was in a good mood. At breakfast on the outdoor terrace, watch out for bees and cats. Better to finish the bread before the bees get to the marmalade. Rainy weather could be rough. In some third floor rooms, water leaked from the ceiling. The floor up there is greatly tilted, so water in the corridor runs into room #5. We had to borrow plenty of bath towels to limit the flooding damage. The hotel emailed to ask whether we wanted a shuttle from the station. We thought it would be much more secure than taking a rip off taxi, but they had only arranged a taxi and we had to pay the driver directly. In an email the hotel quoted 200 MAD for the shuttle. When my Morrocain friend called them in Arabic, the price came down to 60 MAD. A few days later, I paid 30 MAD for a taxi from near the train station to the hotel. Oued Zhoun isn’t convenient for tourists. The only public transport is bus #10, and taxis and restaurants are good at ripping tourists off. I’d rather stay around the blue gate outside the Médina. Some taxis around the blue gates are honest and reliable because they use a meter, and the restaurant there offered local food at reasonable prices, 40 to 60 MAD. Here in Oued Zhoun, a restaurant charged 80 MAD for food worth 30 to 40 MAD.

The location was wonderful, and the food was good. The staff were super nice and helpful. Nice hotel!

A beautiful spot in the center of Fes, very close to the medina. Great location ❤👌
