Ramada by Wyndham Fes

The bathroom floor was dirty, and the toilet looked as if it hadn't been cleaned after previous guests, maybe more than two stays. For a famous chain hotel, you'd expect cleaning procedures to be followed. Older facilities can still feel elegant, but management needs to address this if they're advertising the place as a 5-star hotel.

There was no mineral water in the room, and several things weren't working properly: the air conditioning, the basin and the lighting. I asked for technical help, but the response was slow. They said they'd send someone to check the air conditioning, but after waiting a long time I went to the front desk to complain. Only then did they ask me to change rooms. I can't imagine a 5-star hotel being so poorly maintained.

Reception were very polite and helpful, and they let us stay until 2pm at no charge because our flight was later in the afternoon. The hotel is a bit far from the main market, but petit taxis are available around the clock and easy to flag down. There are local shops, plus several upmarket cafes and supermarkets within a 10-minute walk. The rooms were spacious and clean. Towels were changed and rooms cleaned daily, and they replenished toiletries like soap, shampoo and toilet paper. Some fittings were loose and the sink drained poorly, but for what we paid, it was amazing value. I'd come back. It's a really good-value 4-star stay, even if it isn't 5-star. Breakfast was especially good and I'd recommend it.

Great if you like a firm mattress. Ask for a smoking or non-smoking floor when you book or check in. The AC and mini fridge may not work very well.
