The woman who owns or runs the riad was incredibly sweet and hardworking. I’m sorry I can’t remember her name. We were there during Eid, and she seemed to be the only one working while also dealing with a cold. When we had to leave early the next morning, she packed us pastries, fruit, and yogurt to take along. That says a lot about her care. The place is a welcoming break from the Moroccan summer heat, about a five-minute walk from the maze of the Fes medina. Its open-air main area has a small pool, lots of different greenery, birdsong, and the ornate architecture you see across Morocco.

Our room had a terrace that was lovely for relaxing, and the Riad itself is both traditional and beautiful. It was very clean, and the staff were professional and kind. They can arrange excursions and offer advice about the city and your stay.

The checkout charges ruined our stay. We asked where we could get a small load of laundry done cheaply, and they offered to handle it, then tried to charge us 28 euro at checkout. The clothes weren’t worth that much. The room was also very cold in winter. This riad costs more than nearby places despite offering the same rooms and service. We ended up leaving and staying at riad ouedghiri, three minutes away, for half the price.

The Riad itself is lovely, well located, and has large, very comfortable rooms. But the meal felt like a real rip-off. There were six of us and it cost €27 per person. We’d expected Moroccan salad, but got a basic bowl of soup. The couscous had bland broth, vegetables, semolina, and one piece of meat each, really just a little beef on a bone. Dessert was fruit. After two weeks in Morocco, we’d found local restaurants charging a third as much for much better food. The couscous seemed carelessly made with the cheapest ingredients. That’s unacceptable for a guesthouse at this level.

Everyone was friendly, and their warmth and body language helped us understand them despite the language gap. Yousef, the main receptionist, speaks Arabic, French, and Spanish. He did his best to speak English with us, and Google Translate came in handy. He arranged restaurant reservations, guides, and packed breakfasts for our early starts. I definitely recommend this Riad.
