Hilton Tangier Al Houara Resort & Spa

My daughters and I had the time of our lives at Hilton Tangier Al Houara Resort & Spa. The warmth and care we felt there, and in Morocco overall, made this trip incredibly special. My girls didn't want to leave, and we're already planning another holiday back. It feels like the perfect getaway, not just a hotel, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone visiting Morocco. Our room was spotless, comfortable and cleaned every day to a high standard, so it felt like home. Everyone was professional and went above and beyond, from reception and housekeeping to the pool and restaurant teams, L’ Oliver, the breakfast hall staff and even the friendly cameraman. We booked Hilton Tangier for our honeymoon, and it was an enjoyable stay overall. The main things that disappointed me were the ants in the room, the cold pool water, and the lack of any honeymoon extras after we chose Hilton as our destination. I also wouldn't pick this hotel for a beach vacation, since the pools seemed a bit dirty and approaching the water was unpleasant, with debris and rubbish around. There were plenty of positives too. Our check-in was smooth, and suite 275 had a stunning, direct ocean view. It looked much better in person than in the pictures, though it's in the farthest corner of the hotel, about 5-7 minutes from the main facilities. The bed and pillows were comfortable, the blackout drapes worked well, and the room was soundproof, so we slept well. The bathroom had both a walk-in shower and a bathtub. No bathrobes were provided, but we could ask for one. Amenities were sparse: shower gel/handwash, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion, but no toothpaste, cotton pads or swabs. There was tea and cream, but no coffee. The buffet had a good amount of Moroccan and international food, enough variety even for a picky eater. Fresh fruit and mint tea were unlimited, and the desserts both looked and tasted good, which is rare. At the cooking stations there were eggs, waffles, crepes and flatbreads for breakfast, then pasta, pizza, shawarma and barbecue at dinner. Fresh watermelon and orange juice were self-serve at breakfast. At dinner, water and sodas were included, while other drinks, including juice, cost extra. The waiters were welcoming, attentive and helpful even without a tip, which was a really pleasant surprise. The grounds were spacious, clean and well kept, with lots of places to walk or sit. There’s a deck beyond the grounds that runs along the beach, and a sunset stroll there was mesmerizing. The beach felt somewhat private, and the area with chairs was well groomed. The hotel also has free sports activities like volleyball and pilates, plus paid options such as a hammam spa, buggy, quad and ebike rentals. Golf was a nice extra at a fair price, though the driving range could use more shade. We tried the spa too. I had a skilled masseuse and really enjoyed the basic 60-minute relaxing massage. My husband said his was basic and nothing special.

We were very happy with our four-night stay. Aya at reception was warm, friendly, professional and attentive, and showed us to our lovely ocean-facing room, Number 077. Breakfast and dinner had lots of choice, and the food was fresh and delicious. We especially liked the beef with almonds, msemen flatbread, strong morning espresso and fresh juice. Everyone at the hotel was attentive and made sure our questions and requests were answered. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you for having us!

The hotel is in a peaceful location, and the staff were polite and genuinely tried to help. They were probably the strongest part of our stay, but good staff can't make up for the wider problems. We expected more from Hilton Tangier Al Houara Resort, and the experience fell well short of what we thought a Hilton property should be. The room had ongoing plumbing issues, which made our supposed relaxing holiday frustrating. The air conditioning clearly hadn't been properly serviced in a long time, and the air felt poor and uncomfortable, especially with a young baby traveling with us. The property also felt poorly maintained and in need of serious maintenance and better quality control. The worst part was dining at L’Olivier, where we found hair in the food. For a hotel of this price and standard, that was unacceptable and ruined the meal. Overall, the tired feel and the problems made the stay poor value for what we paid. It felt like style over substance, not true Hilton quality.
