Le Balcon De Tanger

Quiet place, clean rooms, and a comfy bed. Great value.

Our ferry back to Spain was canceled after checkout, and they let us return to relax on the balcony while we waited for the next one. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was a delicious mix of Moroccan breads and dips, plus eggs. The location is amazing, and I’ll definitely be back.

The rules here seemed to change without warning, and we were made to feel more like intruders than paying hotel guests. One evening we asked about having wine on the terrace at sunset and were told we could use a bottle opener. Ten minutes later, a formal message said the owner didn't allow alcohol in public areas and guests couldn't use the kitchen tools. That followed a disappointing breakfast experience. We had arranged the night before to eat on the terrace, which cost extra, but in the morning staff first discouraged us because of the weather. When we still wanted to go outside, they said the owner, who had arrived late the night before, had reserved the large two-story balcony for himself. We ended up eating the poor-value breakfast on the first-floor living room floor because it was more comfortable than the couch. We were very disappointed with our stay at Le Balcon Tanger. The owner seemed to treat the place as his home, despite its being presented as a three-star hotel.

Abdel, the owner, was welcoming and helpful, and the rooftop terrace is a lovely spot for breakfast or drinks. Inside, the cosy decor has a great Moroccan feel. The location is ideal, right in the Medina with views over the port. I'd definitely recommend it.
