Riad Palais Didi, once home to Didi, a descendant of Sultan Moulay Sulaiman and grandfather of the current owners, is a masterpiece of Moroccan craftsmanship. Restored in traditional Moroccan style, the riad is centered around a tranquil patio and fountain, offering respite during warm summer days. A rooftop terrace presents stunning views of the ancient medina and the Royal Golf of Meknes—one of the few links courses worldwide playable at night, and the only one near the 17th-century ruins of an Imperial Palace.

Breakfast in the beautiful central courtyard was delicious, and the riad has a lovely traditional feel. It’s family-run, with rooms in different color themes. My room was spacious and attractive, though a bit worn, and gaps around the doors and windows let the outdoors in. A good choice for a traditional Moroccan stay.

The staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful, and we felt safe there. Our room was astonishing, and the historic Riad is beautifully set up. Breakfast was superb, and the service excellent. We definitely recommend it.

We were hungry and walked over in the rain, but when we knocked at the place marked “Restaurant,” a man opened the door and said “no” when we asked about eating there. I can’t see why they have a restaurant sign out front. It came across as lazy or unprofessional. I’d give zero stars if I could.
