Riad El Maâti

Breakfast was average, and the dust around the place and crumbs on the common dining seats made the cleanliness disappointing. Finding the Riad was hard, so we had to ask a local vendor for directions. At the door we weren’t sure how to get in and waited until someone finally let us inside. The room had a few problems too. The washroom door wouldn’t lock and didn’t line up properly, leaving it slightly open, while the leaking faucet kept the sink area wet. We expected poor insulation, but the heating was odd: the top of the room got extremely hot while the lower part stayed uncomfortably cold. It’s far from what I’d expect of a 4-star hotel. I wouldn’t call it family-friendly, though it might suit someone after a very rustic, old-world stay.

Inside the Medina, the location was pleasant. The room was comfy, and everyone greeted us with a smile.

The street outside is busy and crowded, but inside the Riad it was completely peaceful, from the rooms to the common spaces and dining area. It’s right in the center of the Medina and Souk Sabat, which was really convenient. Breakfast is included, with a huge spread: a traditional Moroccan breakfast, plus pound cakes, muffins, and simpler items. Everything is made from scratch on site. The whole staff was warm and helpful, and staying here felt like being with family. Khadija is exceptional, such an amazing person. Everything was perfect from start to finish, and we’ll absolutely stay again next time we’re in Rabat.

The breakfast leaned sweet, which I liked, though my partner prefers savory food and was a bit disappointed. Still, it was tasty and freshly made. We enjoyed the French pastries, crêpes, and local Moroccan bread. The riad also offers dinner, but we ate out and didn’t try it, even though the menu looked very good. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated, and the cleaning ladies were polite and efficient. Our beds were very comfortable, and we had a small pouffe and table. WiFi was fast and steady. The riad is inside the Medina but close to an exit, and tram and bus stops are a three-minute walk away. In my opinion it’s the best place to stay in Rabat. I was very happy here and would definitely book again if I return.
