FLILOU La Maison Berbère - Hostel

The rooftop is spacious and laid-back, and the staff are super nice. The food’s good too, especially the salads. I can highly recommend "Flilou". The village is nice, with beautiful mountains and scenery around it, and it’s a great place to spend a few days hiking.

Cattle and goats graze not far away, and donkeys are a main way to get around. Along the nearby villages are women’s cooperatives, and local artisans make furniture and beautiful carpets on hand looms. The drive here was unbelievably gorgeous, and we got charming service from the staff. Mama and her sons prepared delicious dinner and breakfast. It was an unforgettable visit. Morocco has so much to see, but this village and its people topped it all for me. The area has a peace, community, tradition and pastoral scenery that wealthy people try to buy, but can’t reproduce.

We only had enough cash for tea, but the proprietor insisted on giving us food too rather than letting us leave hungry. He was also helping another tourist with a broken-down car. We’d stopped at this lovely place while driving out of the beautiful region, and the rooftop terrace has a stunning view. Don’t miss it.

I stayed for two nights just before Covid and felt at home. The staff were nice, the place was peaceful, and the rooms were great. When the weather’s good, you can have breakfast or lunch on the terrace overlooking the Megoun Mountains. The meals are homemade.
