The breakfast on the terrace, with a view over the desert, was among the best of our whole trip in Morocco. There was almost too much to choose from, including wonderful jams made with local ingredients, and the food overall is not to be missed. Casa Juan is in a picturesque part of southern Morocco, in Tagounite between Zagora and Mhamid, where there are very few tourists. It makes a great last stop before heading to the Sahara at Erg Chigaga. I only wish we'd stayed longer than one night. Casa Juan has a real soul, especially if you care more about authenticity than luxury. Its simple traditional decor has lovely details from Berber art and other African traditions, alongside interesting photos that reflect the travels of Juan, the guesthouse owner, photographer, and traveler. It feels like the essence of Berber hospitality, much thanks to Abdel, the property manager. Even though we'd picked a room when booking, Abdel showed us around when we arrived, so we could choose another. His care for our comfort carried on after checkout too. My husband left his iPad under the bed, and although we were already well on our way, Abdul found us and helped get it back to us.

The food was incredible, and I still can’t believe I found this hidden gem out in the desert. The house is full of history and has been renovated with so much taste. Every room is different, inspired by places the owner has traveled, and his breathtaking photos decorate the house. Abdou’s hospitality made us feel completely at home. He’s passionate and truly interested in his guests, with a rare sense of when to be around and how to make people comfortable. The house’s charm is undeniable.

This was the best value we’ve come across on our trip, and a lovely place to unwind after the desert. The hotel exceeded what we expected. The building is finished with amazing attention to detail and decorated with real care and creativity. It feels authentic. Abdu was so welcoming and friendly, and next time we’re in Morocco we’ll look up Juan’s other hotels.

We first visited Casa Juan 10 years ago and came back last week. It’s still a magical place, and we love it. The food was delicious too. We definitely recommend it!

Casa Juan is a lovely, quiet place to stay in the countryside, between several traditional villages. Inside, there’s a surprising amount to see. The owner is a photographer, and the place feels like a museum. The staff were friendly and very nice. He took us for a walk by the river and through the village. Thanks for the warm welcome.
