Breakfast was a real treat on the rooftop, with new things appearing and some gluten-free options too. The staff were warm and happy to sort out taxis or cars for tours. French was easy with them, and I assume Arabic was too, though English was a bit limited and we managed. Dar Sultan is full of Moroccan art, textiles, crafts, and all sorts of unusual objects. Every corner has something different to look at. The rooms are lovely, but our twin was small and gloomy, with hardly any floor space and little bathroom privacy. We ended up booking another room. The double was roomier and more comfortable, and its bathroom was farther from the bed. The place is in a lovely spot with lots of plants outside, clean surroundings, and some great restaurants within walking distance. There is plenty of street noise, as you get with many kasbah buildings. I enjoyed hearing the kids and discovering music with Shazam, even late at night, but light sleepers should bring earplugs. One thing to keep in mind is the stairs, which are very steep. There’s no lift or ground-floor room, so anyone who has trouble walking may struggle. The door locks also took us a while to figure out. I recommend Dar Sultan, provided the stairs work for you.

Breakfast on the terrace was wonderful, and the staff made us feel welcome throughout our stay. Dar Sultan has the feel of an old Tangier home, with winding stairs and rooms furnished with beautiful antiques. Each one has its own look. Step outside the front door and you’re right inside the ancient medina walls. We absolutely loved it.

The breakfasts were among the best I tried, with something different each day, lovely homemade yogurt, and excellent bread. The staff also helped arrange a local hamam and order taxis when we needed them. Service was great, although most staff spoke French and I got by using only English. This is a charming little guesthouse up the hill near the Kasbah wall, an easy walk from the Medina. The rooms are eclectic and quite full of things, but that over-the-top look has its own appeal. They only have showers, with really good water pressure.

Our room, Sharaf Roof, had a private terrace with a gorgeous view of the sea, and it was a lovely place to sit and take in Tangier. The hotel is close to a parking lot, which was convenient since we had a car, and the location felt safe. Breakfast was a highlight, both tasty and included in the stay. Amal prepared it with so much kindness that it felt like being cared for by a loving mom. I miss her warmth already. Ayoub was a real gentleman and went out of his way to help us, and Nadia made us an unforgettable Moroccan dish that felt truly unique and authentic. The decor at Dar Sultan is colorful and captivating, with Moroccan pieces in every corner. Each room has its own personality, and the other rooms we saw were just as beautiful and thoughtfully put together as ours. Tangier itself is stunning, but this charming boutique hotel made the trip even more special. We didn’t want to leave. A big thank you to the whole team. Dar Sultan is full of heart and charm, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Tangier.

The room wasn’t my favorite because it let in too much light at night, and I felt sad seeing the birds kept in cages. The rest of the stay was lovely, especially the staff, who always made sure we were comfortable and had what we needed. I’d happily return for the quiet neighborhood and the wonderful hammam next door.
