Fredj Hotel

The room was so moldy and dirty that I had to switch, but the other one was falling apart too. Its sheets weren’t clean, the fridge didn’t work, and there was no shower. Staff didn’t understand English, and there was practically no Wi-Fi. Nothing about this felt like a 4 star hotel. Save yourself and find somewhere else.

I should’ve checked the reviews before booking. They were right about the dirty floors and the shortage of towels and toilet paper. I don’t understand how this is rated 4 stars, and wouldn’t recommend it.

There’s been a chicken bone in the pool for three days. The spa is closed, despite being in the establishment’s name. There were no towels when we checked in, so we couldn’t shower until evening. Our towels were never changed, and on day three they took my dirty one without leaving a replacement. The room was stiflingly hot in the direct sun. The aircon was set to heating because “it’s not summer yet,” and they wouldn’t switch it to cool even though it was 30 Celsius. There wasn’t even a fan to get air moving. The mini fridge was broken too. When I asked about fixing or replacing it, I was told yes, but when I followed up a few hours later, they said all the hotel’s fridges were broken. No air, no cold water. I know things go wrong and tried to be understanding, but three different people in my group spoke with staff and got three different answers. None included an effort to resolve anything. If you’re coming from a hostel, this might be fine. If you expect the advertised inclusions, you’ll be sorely disappointed. See attached: things this hotel does not have.

For what we paid, this was a pleasant surprise. Our room was very clean, with comfortable bedding, hot water, and a balcony overlooking the port 😍. The room service food was tasty too. It’s a charming old hotel right in the middle of Medina, and the rooms seem to have had some renovation and upgrades.
