Malabata Guest House

The owners were lovely and helped us with everything we needed. They welcomed us with Moroccan tea, and the traditional rooms are lovely. Some spots were dusty and worn, but it worked well for our stay. Breakfast was traditional and really yummy. It's a family-run riad with a B&B feel, a bit out of the way from central Tangier and not within walking distance. There is plenty to offer around it, though. A really lovely stay.

After our flight was cancelled, staying here helped make up for it. The rooms are gorgeous, breakfast was simple and lovely, and the staff were so sweet.

The room was big and beautiful, with a good shower that stayed hot, but the bed was quite hard and the WiFi was weak in the bedroom. The place was decent overall. Customer service was great, the building pretty, and breakfast was good and quite nice. The airport rides were a disappointment: we paid €30 each way, the same as he said a taxi would cost, but I didn't realize the transportation was paid until the day before we left. A driver was also available to take us to the Medina for €5 a trip, which was convenient, and it was nice having someone we knew and trusted to pick us up. You can walk to Cappuccino, a popular cafe in the evening, but most places need a car.

This was by far the least hospitable place we stayed during our road trip through Morocco, after Fes, Marrakech, the Sahara, and Gorges de ziz. The host was unwelcoming, rude, and very defensive when we asked about a partial refund. We got one through Airbnb support after he refused to refund anything. The listing was misleading, including about the pool, which we couldn't use because it was only available in certain months. There was also an extra Tangier tax that wasn't stated when we booked. The owner kept banging on our door to demand it, saying it applied only to guests of Tangiers. He even asked us to move our car a few metres backwards because he said it wasn't parked conveniently. The guest house is run down, with outdated decor and unfinished parts of the room. Our ensuite shower cubicle had pieces of glass missing. There was no hot water, just barely warm water that took ages to get above freezing, so I couldn't shower properly after a long journey. Breakfast costs extra, and even orange juice was €2.50. Everywhere else we'd stayed, food had been complimentary, so we decided not to eat here. The owner asked if we wanted breakfast, but didn't mention the charge. All in all, it ruined my last night in Morocco.
