Gite Elkhorbat

The green oasis and palm groves are lovely, and the mountain colors even reminded me of the Apalachien area. There’s also a lot to learn here about the history and culture of the people who have lived here since the beginning of history. It’s a wonderful place to rest and visit this important museum. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into another world.

We loved the atmosphere and the history here, especially the unbelievable museum in the kasbah. It kept us much longer than we’d planned. Our room was spacious and very clean, with a great shower and bed, and it was nicely warm through the cold nights. The welcome was warm too, and the restaurant food was delicious. One of the best places we stayed in Morocco.

A beautiful place run by local people who genuinely care and share. The project has a wider purpose that includes the community around the Gite. If curiosity and caring aren’t what bring you somewhere, you might do the place a favor by staying away.

The rooms in the old ksar (fortified town) were nice, and we liked the traditional textiles and carpets. Staff were friendly. Wi-Fi is patchy inside the rooms because of the thick earthen walls, but it works very well in the restaurant and on the terrace. For anyone arriving by car, reach the parking area from the north, not from the El Khorbat road to the south. Follow the N10 signs, cross the oued/wadi (dry riverbed), then go up the El Khorbat side. The gate will be on your right. A motorbike, or perhaps a very small car, can get through either way. Their website explains the route too.
