Lenin Street Hostel

Dmitri was a great host. His fluent English and knowledge of the area made it easy to ask questions and get around Tiraspol, and he also arranged travel between Chisinau and Tiraspol. The extra guide he offers made for an excellent experience. I highly recommend his guest house and tours, and the country to anyone keen to visit. 5 stars.

I didn't end up staying here, and wouldn't recommend booking without being very careful. The website said to book directly for the best price, but when I contacted them, they quoted more than booking.com. So I reserved through booking.com instead. The owner then sent a rude message asking why I hadn't booked directly. Five minutes later, he asked me to cancel because they had a water problem. After those messages, I no longer wanted to deal with them, so I cancelled as requested. Be careful if you don't want to risk being left without a room. I'm more than sure this guy will reply to this review with "fake guest," as he does to all the negative reviews.

I didn't stay at the hostel, but spending a day with Dmitry was the highlight of my whole trip. We hunted for Soviet memorabilia at the markets, then went to Bender Fortress, where he gave me the full story-time treatment. Next we went to THE stolovka for lunch and took a few more pictures with Soviet stuff. For digestion, he took me for cognac shots in a sad little place, which I loved. Then we tried to get into an abandoned building overlooking a babushka council meeting, with stray dogs watching. We finished at a wonderfully questionable supermarket where all the local weird characters hang out. Couldn't have asked for a better day 😂 Dmitry is a fun, incredibly knowledgeable guide, and a really good photographer too. Definitely recommended 🌟

Dimitri, the host, was really kind and suggested places to visit, where to eat, and things to do. The hostel was clean and warm, in a very good location, and the price was very good too. I recommend booking and taking a guided visit with Dimitri to better understand what Transnistria (PMR) is. It was a very good experience.
