Hotel Monte Mare

The food was excellent, and the arrival was smooth: check-in was quick and I reached my room within minutes. The staff were welcoming, professional, and attentive throughout. I had a memorable stay and would gladly return. A great choice whether you’re here for work or a holiday.

I booked from 01.08 to 09.08, but my child was poisoned at the camp he was attending with his club and ended up in hospital. After discussing it with the doctor, we decided to go on holiday, and the children were very happy. Since we had paid a sum that would otherwise be lost for four days, I emailed asking about extending the stay by a day or two. They replied that the reservation was going ahead, but no one answered that question. I called and explained this, then asked where Mr. Nikola was. He told me to come and they’d see the situation in person, and if there was room, he’d extend it by a day or two for the children. I arrived with the children at 00:30 on the fifth day, after the ponies, and they didn’t know I was coming. Our lives had been betrayed, and they put us in a room that was awful and smelled of sewage. The bed linen wasn’t changed before we left. But back to the issue: I’d asked for confirmation on the phone because they hadn’t replied to my email about extending by a day or two. They called a third person to ask again and put someone on the phone; I repeated everything, and Mr. Nikola said there was no problem, we could stay until 11.08, as a favor for the children. Then, on the last day, they called us to reception to settle the bill, even though everything had already been paid. The gentlemen decided to violently extort money for two days because they hadn’t communicated 😡. After half an hour of circular arguing and persuasion, they still charged €290.5 for one day. That’s how they decided to extort a mother with three children.

The free sunbeds and hotel beach bar were nice perks, and the beach itself was pleasant with beautiful water. There was some litter on the sand, though the sea made up for it. The hotel’s modern interior was also a plus, and the food wasn’t bad, but our week was awful overall. Everyone at the hotel got food poisoning, and we were too sick to function for four of our seven days. The staff disappointed me badly: they seemed incompetent, sat smoking at the bar, and were rude and unwilling to take our order. On our first day, after a long night of travel, housekeeping entered without knocking while we were asleep in our underwear and began changing pillowcases. They only left when we explicitly asked them to. The room had a sea view, but construction next door woke us with work noise. The hotel area itself is quiet, though there’s no pleasant promenade nearby. The roughly eight-minute walk to the beach passes unpleasant smells and litter, and there’s a foul-smelling swamp at the hotel entrance.

The food was tasty, and the bars, kitchen, and waiters were definitely a plus. Over our week, dishes were repeated, but with a little imagination you could eat something different each day. Fruit was always available, and children’s meals could be put together with a bit of thought. The hotel itself is nice and close to the beach. Cleanliness, though, needs a lot of work. The cleaning staff supposedly had far too much to do, yet I saw them sitting in the corridor on their phones or smoking behind the hotel. During our seven days, the maid wouldn’t have come into our room at all if I hadn’t asked. Even then, “cleaning” meant taking away an almost empty rubbish bag and sweeping the floor. She didn’t go into the bathroom, change the towels despite my request, or replace the toilet paper. Keeping the place clean definitely needs improvement.
