Astoria Kotor Boutique Hotel

Astoria Restaurant had a nice atmosphere and friendly service. This rating is for the restaurant, not the room. Our tour guide called it one of the best restaurants in the area, so we decided to eat there. The green salad was great, with lots of fresh feta and vegetables. The seafood pasta and curry pasta, though, were a real disappointment. Both were so overcooked they turned gooey, and they were hard to swallow. We felt we had to eat them because they cost EU$19 each. Prices were higher than at nearby restaurants. If you can eat somewhere else, do that. I wouldn’t recommend it or return for another meal. Getting anyone to seat us was a struggle. Staff passed by several times without responding, and after we finally got a table, menus and order-taking both took a long time. The food was good, but clearing the plates and bringing the bill dragged on too, even after the lunch rush had eased and plenty of tables were empty. Other diners seemed to be having the same trouble. The staff showed little apology, so this felt like the restaurant’s usual level of service.

We liked the upstairs seating, with its view over the street, and found the restaurant cozy. The staff were friendly, and having pictures and English on the menu made ordering easy. Our pesto pasta and tortilla tasted good and came in generous portions. A simple, comforting meal.

The friendly, professional service and excellent quality made for a great experience. Everything was better than I expected. I’d gladly return and recommend it to others.
