Porto Sole Hotel

We had a great time. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was good, and the beach is just two minutes away. I wish the pool had been a little cleaner.

The sea-view room was my favorite part. I could sit on the balcony and enjoy the fresh air coming in from the beach, and ended up spending more time out there than in the room. The room had a working safe, TV, fridge, and air conditioner. Breakfast was served from 8 to 10 each morning, with different choices. Reception staff could speak English and were always ready to help. Airport pickup was available. The hotel suited what I wanted, somewhere near the beach, with bars, restaurants, supermarkets, and ATMs all within walking distance. I had a great stay. The hotel bar wasn’t operating during my visit, and the pool is open in summer.

We were there near the end of October, and some facilities, including the pool and rooftop terrace, were closed for the season. They looked very modern and impressive, like the rest of the hotel. Even then, the place was quite full. What we paid for the rooms with breakfast was outstanding value. It’s a very good three-star hotel and we enjoyed our stay, though dining and drinking options in Sutomore are VERY limited out of season. We were a group of six adults and two children and booked five of the six One Bedroom Suites, stacked between the second and sixth floors. Each suite had a double bedroom with a Juliet balcony, a decent bathroom with a walk-in shower, and a small sitting room with a sofa bed, flat-screen TV, dressing table, and mini-fridge. The sitting room opened onto a good-sized corner balcony with a table and chairs, overlooking the mountains. On the higher floors, there was also a partial sea view. Breakfast was very decent, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We did have trouble with the Wi-Fi and TV reception.

We were really disappointed and wouldn’t recommend this hotel. The rooms were basic and looked run down. Our fridge didn’t work, and the curtain was broken and hanging badly. We booked a two-bed room with a bed and sofa bed, but there was no bedding for the sofa. When I asked at reception, I waited 15 minutes for someone to show up. They eventually handed me two sets of bedding that were soaking wet, no exaggeration. My friend went straight back down to try to sort it out. The receptionist later said they had no dry sheets. Very handy for a four-star hotel. We’d booked because the listing said there was a pool, but it wasn’t in use, apparently hadn’t been for some time, and wasn’t expected to reopen soon. There was construction right outside, so we had to walk over rubble and wire to get to the beach, and our view was entirely of the building site. The soundproofing was poor, and street noise was very loud. Breakfast was disappointing too: a dead fly in my juice, odd or bland juices, a poor coffee machine, cold porridge, and half the items empty with nobody refilling them. We locked our room, went to breakfast, and came back to find the door wide open. Nothing had been cleaned, so I was confused and worried. One receptionist was very nice, and the reception area was tidy. But the wider Sutomore area disappointed us too. Most shops and cafes were shut and gathering dust, there wasn’t much to see or visit besides the sea, and it felt dirty, unfriendly, and generally unpleasant. I wouldn’t visit the hotel or area again. I’d choose a nicer part of Montenegro, like Budva.
