We expected to stay for three nights, but left after two because we no longer felt safe. On the second day, the owner called my husband into his room, where another man was present. They are both Turkish, according to what we understood. The owner asked odd questions about whether we were alone in the country, had a work visa, and had registered anywhere before. That evening we spent the night elsewhere. We’d been gone for eight hours. When we came back the next morning, everything looked locked just as we’d left it: windows closed, blinds down, door locked. But the fan was running, even though nobody in my family had used it, and our letters with contact details had been spread across the table and covered with a towel that hadn’t been there before. Only someone with a key could have entered. If the owner needed to come by during the night, why not message or call us on WhatsApp first? I felt my family might be about to be kidnapped. We took our suitcases and left, then reported what happened to the police. There was also a problem with the tourist tax. They wanted to charge 1.9 euros per person, including the children. We said that, under the law as we understood it, children under 12 don't pay, and adults pay 1 euro per day. The owner refused to issue the tax and told us to handle it ourselves. We went to the tourist center five times over those three days, but without the information from the owner we couldn't pay it.

The view was my favorite part, and the place is handy for both the center and the airport. We stayed one night on the top floor. The room was clean and spacious, had toiletries, and looked out over the water. The airport is close enough to walk to. A taxi can cost a lot: we bargained and still paid 20 euro for a drive under five minutes. Our host was polite, though he spoke very little English. We managed to communicate, and he said we had to register and pay the tourist tax ourselves at a tourist information office or police station. It’s usually 1 euro per adult and mandatory for a Tivat stay, with a possible fine when leaving through the airport. The odd part was that taxes were already included in the rent we paid, but he said we needed to pay again when registering. Some of our change was also missing. In Montenegro, each municipality or city charges this required tax and registration. Some places handle it or include it in their charge, while others leave it to guests. A few reviews mentioned rooms being entered, but ours was fine. I left my rings in the room and everything was still there when I came back. We dealt with just one man as host. There was construction in the neighboring buildings during our visit, so we heard some noise, though it stopped by night. I’d be cautious and take precautions when dealing with them.

After a month, with our reservation already confirmed, they cancelled it and then doubled the price. It felt very unprofessional and left us stuck, since we’d trusted that the booking was secure. They don’t speak English, and I couldn’t understand their messages.

I felt right at home in this apartment. It was comfortable and very clean, and the beach is just a minute away on foot. The Turkish owners were incredibly hospitable, with friendly service and warm conversations that made the holiday even better. One of my best stays in Tivat. I’d definitely return and wholeheartedly recommend it!

Having a home in Tivat feels wonderful. The rooms came with clean towels and lots of useful things: a TV, fridge, hairdryer, dishes, glasses, kettle, and more. Everything was very clean. We loved being so close to the marina, especially the magnificent view. Waking up to the sea each morning is priceless.
