Guest House Vera

The location made shopping easy, with a market across the street for fruit and vegetables and a supermarket beside it. I had a private room for two with its own bathroom, and it was adequate, though I was disappointed to pay the same as guests whose rooms had private balconies. I wasn't comfortable using the outdoor kitchen because there were always dishes around, and I couldn't tell whether I was allowed to use it. My interactions with Vera were usually unpleasant; she came across as cold. Her parents, though, were lovely. When I checked out, her mother offered freshly made Priganice, a fried dough breakfast from Montenegro, even though I hadn't paid for breakfast.

The family were so kind, and the food was amazing and cheap. Best diner I've ever heard of, highly recommend it!

The area felt dirty and unfriendly, and I found little to do socially. I also thought the food in the city was poor quality, toxic, and bad for you. At the accommodation, I was told online that guests in deluxe rooms could use the shared kitchen, but when I arrived she was very rude and insisted I couldn't use it. The people there were unsocial and seemed fearful of me, like the rest of their Muslim community. I'd say skip Montenegro and Albania and go to Croatia or Greece first.

The streets of Ulcin are chaotic, so finding the place was tricky, but it was worth it. A local market is just a minute away, restaurants are five minutes off, and the beach takes ten. Our host was helpful with information throughout our stay and upgraded us to a room with a city view. We'd definitely return, 10/10.
