Hotel La Rosa Negra

The staff were always smiling, friendly, and very helpful, full compliments to them. We had a lovely view of the broad sandy Long beach in Ulcinj. Breakfast and dinner were okay, though there's room to improve, and with only one elevator we sometimes had to wait.

After a 20-hour trip, we arrived to find one of our two rooms, both booked with sea views for our two children, was occupied. Two days before leaving Germany, we'd written to check and were told everything was as booked. There was no parking, and they even tried to let us in, but our car broke down. The entrance was dirty and the workers seemed unprepared. Worst of all, the owner came out acting arrogantly and told us to go away and do whatever we wanted, that they didn't care and those were their conditions. We left and luckily found an even better hotel. We'd read some bad reviews, but never thought it would be such a disaster.

We booked in May, two and a half months ahead. Only two days before we were due to arrive, they emailed to say the system had made a mistake on July 15 and they were overbooked. It had taken them 20 days to notice and contact us. When we asked if they had another solution, they had none, even though rooms still appeared available on Booking's site. They weren't very pleasant on the phone. Extremely unprofessional. I'd never recommend this place, minus 10 out of 10.

The location near the beach was a plus, as were the restaurant food and the friendly girl who waited on us. The food was decent, but the male staff could do more to welcome customers. They should learn to communicate in Montenegrin or stop waiting tables, since they didn't say hello or goodbye. In the room, cleaning was minimal, and many things were broken or only half-working. The bathroom stayed like a steam room, shower water spread across much of the floor outside the shower, water pressure fluctuated, and the lights worked on and off. Wi-Fi was poor, and the sheets and pillows had no covers. Not worth visiting.
