The sunset trip on Skadar lake was amazing. Marko hosted us so well, and we spent two hours on the tour. Afterwards we sat down at the traditional Restaurant Pelikan, where the food was great and the staff were amazing. The rooms are great too, with an incredible lake view. We had an amazing day at the restaurant and Hotel Pelikan in Virpazar. 1000/10.

With their help, we got to see the lake and its beauty. We met these wonderful people while travelling through the Balkan countries last week, and they made us feel comfortable, relaxed and welcome right away. I’m so glad our paths crossed!

Breakfast was hearty and full of typical Montenegrin dishes: eggs, ham, cheese, omelette and delicious homemade bread. The hotel itself is cosy and lovely, right in the centre of the pretty little town of Virpazar. My room was simple and clean. Even with such a central location, it was quiet enough for a good night’s sleep.

BEWARE of the man stopping cars at the entrance near Pelican Restaurant / Hotel. When we arrived, he prevented us from parking and said the lake was “closed” and there was no free entry. He claimed he worked for the “Tourist Information Board” and offered to take us there. Instead, he led us to "Pelican Hotel" / "Mali Hotel" and sold us a one-hour boat trip for €120 for four people. He also insisted there was a €5 per-person “park entrance fee,” which didn’t seem legitimate. It was cash only, with no receipt. He made repeated claims that turned out to be false, including a guarantee that we’d see pelicans because he’d seen 38 the day before, and lotus flowers even though it wasn’t the season. Even the boat captain was shocked. Be cautious and go to the real tourist information board.
