Andasibe Sifaka Lodge

A solid 3-star place, with large bungalows, mosquito nets, friendly staff, and some excellent food. We loved the duck confit. The pool was a nice extra, and the kids loved it. The doors creaked a bit, but everything else was fine. It's Madagascar, so the showers aren't high pressure, but there was hot water and a towel, and it was clean.

The location was good, and the staff were friendly, though they worked long hours. The room wasn't great: very cold, and the shower gave only a few drops of warm water at a time. The food was good, but we were told the menu was a starter, main course, and dessert. Later we found out we could have ordered only a main, with the items charged separately.

We had a great stay at Sifaka Lodge and have just returned, so I don't really understand the low ratings. The rooms were basic but sparkling clean, and the lodge was nicely maintained, with a lovely garden and good surrounding facilities. The restaurant food was nice too. It's very close to the national park entrance, and in the morning you can hear the indris singing all around. Paul at reception found us the best guide for the park we could have hoped for. If you visit, definitely ask for Claude. He knows the place inside out.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel. Nothing was good: the room smelled terrible, the price was higher than they had told us, and breakfast was said to be included but wasn't. The food was cold every time and wasn't good, either. The staff were unfriendly.
