I strongly advise against staying at La Casa Di Luna. We checked in at the beginning of October 2025, and money hidden in our luggage was stolen from the room I shared with my travel companion. Nobody was caught in the act, but the circumstances left us convinced someone from the hotel staff was responsible. Our room had been locked, with no mess, no sign anyone had searched our things, and no forced entry. We only discovered the missing money the next day. Before we went out to the city, one of the waitresses looked into our room to tell us a meal was ready. Only one of us was there, in the bathroom, and a bulging envelope of money was sticking out of an open backpack pocket. After changing several hundred euros, you end up with a thick bundle of local currency in a distinctive envelope. It's easy to recognize, and too much to normally carry around. Once we left, it was taken. We told the owner, who sent us to the security room to check the footage. The camera that usually covers the entire facade had been tilted down on the day of the theft, so it didn't record our second floor. The room entrances are on terraces in the courtyard by the pool, as shown in the hotel photos. With the usual camera angle, entrances on every floor would be visible. That day only the ground-floor doors were in view. We could see staff using the external spiral staircase, but not what they were doing. Nobody knew who had moved the camera or why. To us, that made it clear the person who entered our room knew they would be outside its coverage and avoid consequences. The owner ignored what we saw as clear circumstantial evidence pointing to someone inside the hotel, then stopped replying to our messages and disappeared. We could only report the theft to local police. Friends there said processing a report usually takes several days. It was a turbulent weekend with riots, the police were busy, and we had little time before continuing our journey. Despite being angry and wanting justice, we had to move on. But the trouble didn't stop there. We had also handed in our clothes for washing after checking in. On departure day, when we asked for them, they were missing too. After a long search, staff gave us used underwear and T-shirts left behind by another guest. We were furious. As a small goodwill gesture for this new loss, we asked them to waive the charge for our last night. After speaking with the manager by phone, staff refused and even tried to bill us more than the amount we had agreed with the owner. The whole ordeal dragged on and caused a lot of frustration, which only grew with each incident. Communication was difficult, and the employees were slow and unresponsive. They either didn't understand how serious this was or simply didn't care about us. We were left without our money and clothes, literally without pants. Avoid La Casa Di Luna.

The staff were friendly, but service for food and drinks took a long time, especially at breakfast. There was also a strange mix-up: our food was delayed, they offered us a pizza as an apology, then charged us for it. The issue was sorted out. The bigger problem was the room. Ours was at the front, though reviews mentioned newer rooms at the back, and it was dated, smelled moldy, and had a dirty bathroom. The shower head had come off the wall, and the toilet barely flushed and made an awful noise when it did. We could hear everything, including cleaners working right outside our door at 7am without trying to keep the noise down. Thin curtains let in light and sounds from the busy road. The door wouldn't close properly and could be opened even with the lock on. There are nicer hotels in this price range, and this place needs updating.

We paid the same price at two other hotels and found their rooms in much better shape. Here, we were disappointed by the room: the toilet made a lot of noise through the night, there was an unpleasant smell, and the huge windows weren't covered properly, leaving no privacy in the bathroom. We heard some rooms have been renovated, but you can't choose between an old or new room, and the price stays the same. It doesn't feel worth taking that chance.

Our room facing the street got a little noisy in the morning, but there are plenty of rooms toward the back. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and the room was clean and well equipped. We had no trouble with electricity or hot water. Late checkout was easy to arrange at no extra cost, and the food was delicious.

From the street, the hotel doesn't look like much, but it stretches a long way back to a newer building overlooking the pool. The food was quite good, and the staff were friendly despite our not speaking French or Malagasy.
