I stayed two nights between Tamatave and the ferry to Île Sainte-Marie. The place is quiet, with rustic bungalows in a lovely little garden around a small lake, right by the sea, though there's no beach. I was "surclassé" to a sea view villa. It wasn't luxurious, but it was clean, spacious, cozy, and came with a private garden and equipped terrace. Food was okay. Staff were very friendly, especially manager-on-duty Chriso. After heavy rain one day, I found the villa roof was almost waterproof.

The restaurant food is wonderful, made with basic ingredients and cooked with love, and the staff are so kind and helpful that things get sorted quickly. The cozy bungalows are well kept, just a few steps from the Indian Ocean and the town center. There are massage services and boat tours to the reefs too, so don't hesitate to stay longer. The dogs and little geckos running around might be the best part. Did I mention the staff and food?

A lovely lagoon ringed by charming bungalows, with the Indian Ocean only a stone's throw away. Everyone working here is incredibly friendly. They left some mangrove trees along the beach, so at low tide you can watch crabs and other marine life scittering among the roots. What an oasis, highly recommend!

The location is nice, but the place is aging and there doesn't seem to be any renovation in sight.
