Isalo Rock Lodge

The location is breathtaking, and there are nice walks around the property, including one to a natural pool in the gorge. It's about a 15 minute drive from the Isalo National park gate. We had a very nice room and friendly service. My only small criticism is that the food wasn't always great for the price. Still, highly recommended.

After long hikes, coming back here felt like coming home to a heavenly place. We stayed three nights and spent two full days in the Park, which was awesome. It was by far the most luxurious hotel of our three week trip through Madagascar. Our bungalow was in the “front row,” facing the mountains directly. The view was surreal, and the room was very large and high standard, with sliding doors to the balcony. The bathroom was huge, there was power 24/24, and the hot shower was really good. The pool was fantastic too, though the nature baths in Isalo park are also well worth visiting. Wonderful service and very good food!

The dinner was okay, nothing special, and a bit disappointing given how fancy the hotel is and how high the prices are for Madagascar. Still, do try their flavored home made rhum! The rooms and their views are amazing, and there's a stunning sunset spot on top of one of the hills. The staff were extremely friendly, and we even got a free upgrade to their most luxurious rooms. Four stars overall.

The interior architecture of the room was great, but the wifi, warm water, and safe didn't work. That's okay in itself, but not at that price for a 4-star hotel. The restaurant was a big disappointment: uninspired food, small portions, and expensive for what it was. Even the marmalades came in plastic packaging. You can get a great Malagasy dinner at places like Chez Alice for much better value.
