The Malagasy staff were kind and professional throughout, which helped make my stay as enjoyable as it could be. Still, I found the way management spoke to them demeaning, and the working setup concerned me. Housekeepers had to carry full loads up and down a spiral staircase. The place has real potential, especially with those 360 degree rooftop views, but I think the ownership and management teams need a bootcamp. I booked Hotel Amazone at the last minute because I needed time to focus and work online. There was wifi, though I had to use it outside my room. The clubs on the street played loud music until 5am every morning, so this neighborhood is a poor fit if noise keeps you from sleeping. The A/C helped drown it out somewhat. No food was served during my stay, so plan for that. My room was quite expensive.

The rooms were spacious and had a jacuzzi, and the price was low. But they weren’t clean, with mosquitoes and spiderwebs, and there were lots of crickets in the hallways. The hotel seems past its glory days, and the photos don’t show what it really looks like. Maintenance is overdue, and cleanliness matters. There were many begging kids on the street in front, blocking the entrance when you came or went. I don’t think the current 3.8 rating is deserved.

There were cockroaches and lizards on the ground, which seemed like a sign of poor cleaning. Sleep was impossible with the clubs nearby blasting music all night. They could replace the windows with soundproof ones if they care about guests.

The breakfast costs a lot, though there aren’t many other places to get it. The hotel works well for meetings, big gatherings, and weddings. Staff were friendly and very efficient, and the beds were comfortable.
