The downstairs lounge bar has terrible coffee by Ohrid standards, and there’s barely any ventilation. Smoking is allowed indoors, so the cigarette smell makes it hard to enjoy the weekend gigs. Avoid it if you don’t want to spend the night breathing smoke and smelling of it. I can’t understand how the place passed inspections.

We ate at the downstairs restaurant last night, but didn’t stay at the hotel. It was awful from beginning to end, and I don’t think I’ve ever given a one-star review before. We waited nearly an hour for our lahmacun, baba ganoush, and chicken poutine, which the waiter had recommended. While we waited, my husband and I quietly played cards to pass the time. A waiter came over just as we’d finished a game and said, “that’s not allowed.” We couldn’t tell if it was meant as a joke, since there was no punchline, or if it was a serious rule. Either way, it seemed bizarre in a hotel where people come to relax. We were putting the cards away anyway. When the food finally came, it was awful. My lahmacun was badly burnt and didn’t taste good. I love garlic, but the baba ganoush had so much raw garlic that even I found it overwhelming. The chicken poutine was a cloying bowl of chips, dry chicken, and bechamel, and it made my husband feel ill. I pointed out that my food was burnt, and we both left more than half of our meals, but nobody seemed to care. My husband’s stomach is still upset this morning. First one-star review for me. 😢

The room was nice and the location was decent, but the rooftop restaurant isn’t worth it. Service was terrible. It took 40 minutes just to get one drink, and waiting for the food felt like it gave me gray hairs. Eat somewhere else.

The rooftop restaurant served very good food, and the room had lovely views. The hotel is lively, with the old town center a lovely 12-minute walk along the lake. We didn’t want to leave.
