The house sits at the top of the Old Town, so getting there means climbing quite a few steps or taking the longer route through the back streets. Once there, we had two apartments, both kept spotless by Jovanka. One looked out over the lake and the other over the fortress. Small beaches are about a 10-minute walk away, as are plenty of lovely cafes, restaurants and bakeries. We stayed at Villa Kale for two weeks in August, and it was an easy five stars for us. Stefan, the owner, met us at the airport and arranged another taxi for all our cases. He was friendly and helped us settle in. His father, Lubcho, was one of the kindest people you could meet, brilliant with our toddlers and quick to help when our 3-year-old fell and cut his head. Nothing seemed like too much trouble. And the star of the place was their dog, Buddy. Our kids were welcome to play with him whenever they wanted. We'll definitely be back to Villa Kale.

Google Maps didn't warn us that the place was up a difficult hill, so getting there took some effort. But the warm welcome, lovely view, and comfortable, clean room made it worth it. Recommended 👌

The owners were friendly and very helpful, sorting things out for us and sharing useful advice and information. Breakfast was superb, with a great selection served by a friendly, helpful staff member. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean, with amazing lake views. Villa Kale is conveniently placed in the picturesque old town. We had a fantastic stay and highly recommend it.

We turned up in Ohrid without a booking, and Stefan found us a room at the last minute. He was easygoing, friendly, and happy to answer all our questions, a real gem of a host. The room was clean, comfortable and bigger than we expected. I'd definitely stay at Villa Kale again. :)

Stefan was amazingly helpful and knew so much about the area. With a clean, spacious room and beautiful views, this place gave us a wonderful way to experience Ohrid and the welcoming Macedonian culture. The location is absolutely fantastic, and the host even better. Five stars don't feel like enough.
