Villa St. Sofija

The staff made the stay for us. Everyone was really kind, spoke good English, and was always eager to help, often going out of their way. On our last morning we had to leave early, and they even packed us breakfast or lunch to take along. We had the deluxe double room, with a comfy bed and a separate sitting area. Wifi was fast and reliable, breakfast was included, and the omelets and coffee were very good. It’s also well placed for exploring the restaurants and sights. One of the best places we stayed on our trip. Definitely stay here!

The bed was comfortable and the wifi was okay, though not great. I couldn’t get the shower temperature adjusted. The service is why I’m giving one star. Nobody was ever at reception, and the contact number left there didn’t work. On arrival, they offered me a free upgrade and a complimentary drink. The room was nice, apart from a wet spot on the bedroom carpet. The next day I went into the mountains and returned around 3 or 4. I opened what I thought was my room and found someone else’s bra and belongings on the bed. My things were gone. Staff eventually told me they had moved my belongings to another room without telling me or getting my permission. They said they had tried calling, but I had no signal. I was made to feel as if that was my fault. I was very uncomfortable that they had gone through my things and moved them, and that I still had a key to a room where other guests were staying. I could have accessed their belongings too, which is unacceptable. I expected a proper apology, not to be blamed for not answering when they hadn’t told me in advance I needed to change rooms. No guest should be able to enter another guest’s room while their belongings are there.

The location was the only good thing. We paid a lot for a hotel that didn’t provide the service to match, and I wouldn’t recommend it. The breakfast was the worst part: there was no menu, the wait was too long, and the food arrived ice cold. There wasn’t much choice because they were short on ingredients, with no bacon, cereal, or sausage, among other things. Our room was supposed to fit four people, but it was only suitable for two, so the other two had to sleep on a very uncomfortable sofa. There’s no lift, not even to help get luggage to the room, so the place isn’t accessible to everyone. At check-in, they wanted to keep our passports, even though those were our only IDs and we needed them to leave the country. We couldn’t get an internet signal and had to restart it ourselves. A disgrace.

Boss vladimir and the whole staff are suuuuper nice people. The place is right in the middle of the pretty old town, and you can park very close by. It’s a lovely, cosy atmosphere with a wonderful view, and everything technical worked well. You can have a really good time here. Highly recommendable.
