Hotel Gold

The buffet breakfast was a letdown, with not much choice and only average flavor. Still, the room was clean and very comfortable, and the hotel's location made getting around easy. A good stay overall, though breakfast could be better.

The hotel seemed to have had a lot of money put into its infrastructure at first, but the current service, including cleanliness, breakfast, and reception, was at a 1 out of 10. Our group of 50 arrived at 14:15, and the rooms weren't ready. We eventually got key cards, but ours didn't work, so reception gave us a regular entrance key before we could get in. The room was dirty, the sheets were stained, and the bathroom was dirty, smelly, and full of limescale. I asked them either to clean it within the next 2-3 hours or give us another room. They said they'd clean it, but when we came back after dinner, only the sheets had been changed. I asked again for a different room. The receptionist gave us a key to another room, and we went to look ourselves. No one came with us or checked our room again to see what was wrong. That room smelled strongly too, though in a different way, so we went back to ours, stayed the night, and left in the morning. Breakfast was very basic, with no coffee because the machine was broken, and no tea either. No one at the hotel apologized when we left.

We were pretty much the only tourists at the hotel in February, though I don't know if that was because of the season or Corona. The breakfast was good, the rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the location was great. Service was good too, except for a rather suspicious mix-up over the airport shuttle. It felt like the hotel might have been trying to make extra money from us. I'd book a taxi yourself and not let reception unsettle you. Otherwise, nothing to complain about.

The rooftop restaurant was a highlight, with panoramic city views while having breakfast in the rising sun. You can request a traditional Turkish breakfast, or choose from the buffet, which had tasty, filling food like vegetables, fruit, cheese, sausages, and different breads. I'd add some lighter choices for guests with particular diets, such as yogurt, porridge, or cottage cheese casserole. The staff were friendly, the Wi-Fi was very good, and I liked the beautiful interior design, modern room, and good location. I do wish the rooms had been cleaned a bit better, but I was very pleased with my stay.
