Nordic Hostel N-Box

The hostel atmosphere was great, a bit like student dorm life. Every evening people chilled together watching YouTube or Netflix on the TV, and sometimes the staff cooked and invited everyone to join in. The beds were comfy and gave you lots of privacy, with a double-bed option too. When I mentioned that one toilet light wasn't working properly, they fixed it within an hour. Everyone was super friendly and helpful, and when I arrived they welcomed me like an old friend. One of the best hostels I've stayed in!

The regular dorms have air conditioning, and the beds are double beds arranged in box-style bunks. I couldn't stay in the single room because it had no AC, but the owner was understanding and helpful when I explained. She even said I was welcome to come hang out. That says a lot about how friendly they are. It’s a great place with a nice atmosphere in Skopje.

The staff were really helpful, and getting to the city center on foot was easy. I liked the look of the hostel, and it seemed clean, though guests are expected to tidy up after themselves. Being able to draw the curtain around your bed gives you some privacy. I struggled with the second-floor shower, which swung between too hot and too cold. Maybe there was a way to adjust it, but I didn't ask. I also only saw two showers, so if the hostel is full, you might need to wait in the morning.

The hostel has a great feel to it, with a roomy, well-furnished living area, a large kitchen stocked with what you need, and coffee and tea available anytime. The tap water was good, and there’s a balcony and outdoor space to relax. It’s spacious and well located, and the bathroom was modern, clean, and nice. I liked the unusual bed boxes as an experience, though with the curtain closed there’s no airflow. Each bed has a light, an AC switch, and a blind-like curtain. The mattress wasn’t among the best I’ve slept on, but the pillow was great. There are lockers and a big fridge in the room. Getting up to the top bunk is really difficult, especially if you’re afraid of heights. I might come back, but only if a lower bed is available.
