Jade Garden Hotel

My parents took me to Fulin Mingjia for dinner tonight. They’d told me it was a famous, luxurious hotel, and it was my first time eating there, so I was really excited. The food selection was rich, the setting elegant and quiet, with almost only saxophone music in the background. It felt like a peaceful wonderland. The food was delicious. The Big Eastern Star Fish was so good, as were the nagong balls and my favorite, luncheon meat. I rushed into the food, but halfway through, a fish bone got stuck in my throat and scared me badly. I called my parents right away. Maybe they’d dealt with this before, because they gave me a dish and told me not to chew it, just swallow it. Then I drank some water and it worked. After that I realized I couldn’t eat so quickly, or I might miss a bigger bone. I slowed down so I could enjoy the flavors again.

We stopped here for one night on our way to Yangon. The room was just okay, and though we were practically alone in the hotel, the sheets hadn’t been prepared. The bathroom was relatively clean. The workers were helpful, but they could have been friendlier. It’s fine for a night while heading somewhere else.

For $20 US, I found the residence very average. It’s too far from town to walk, so you end up having to buy the expensive food at the hotel. The outside and gardens have a nice Chinese style. The air con worked fine, but the rooms and beds weren’t the cleanest, and the lighting wasn’t very good.

Well, I don’t think they really care about the business. It’s also more expensive than the nearby Swal Taw Guest house.
