For three nights at the Royal Peacock Hotel in Mandalay, the room and breakfast were fine and I had no issues. Then checkout ruined the stay. They suddenly demanded 25,000 kyats, saying I had broken the TV remote. I hadn't. I left both the TV and air-conditioner remotes together on the table, and neither was damaged. At reception they immediately said the remote was broken, without discussing it or showing proof. It felt like an unfair accusation to get extra money from me. I was shocked and disappointed by what seemed dishonest, and they even gave me a bill for a remote I hadn't damaged, which I've attached. I strongly warn others against staying here. You don't know what they might accuse you of or charge you for at checkout. What could have been a good stay ended in stress and frustration. Big no.

The exterior doesn't give a good sense of the inside, which looks luxurious, and the rooms are spacious. The staff were polite and good. The views weren't that great, though. It’s the best hotel for Muslims.

The electricity was unstable and the WiFi was really poor. They charged extra for 3 in 1 coffees, and their card had to be upgraded all the time. Worst experience of my life.

If you want a place downtown, I’d recommend this hotel. The location is great, and the room was nice and clean.
