Full Moon Guest House

We really appreciated being allowed to check in early, and the breakfast was delicious. The problem was that several staff members sat right outside our room door, chatting loudly all day. It was hard to rest after the night bus.

The rooms were fairly spacious, which was about the only plus. One room was very cold because wind came in. The towels and sheets weren’t clean, with visible stains, and the towels were too rough to use on your face. There was no shower cap, and when we entered the room the toothbrushes were in the rubbish bin, so we had to ask reception for new ones. There was no phone line, so we had to walk downstairs to contact reception, and there’s no lift, which was uncomfortable for older people. The staff seemed to favor foreigners, judging by how they spoke to people in the dining room. We had a very unpleasant stay and wouldn’t recommend it.

We arrived from Bagan at 4am, and they let us sleep in another room until ours was ready, without charging extra. The staff were super friendly, and the breakfast was great, with lots of options and everything freshly made. Excellent value for money.

I’m grateful they were able to accommodate me, especially during the COVID-19 circumstances, and the owner was kind and understanding. Even with Corona restrictions already in place, he accepted me as a guest and gave me a basic room at a really fair special price. Since I had to stay a long time, we became friends. He let me use the fridge and kitchen to cook my own meals. Breakfast was generous, the pancakes were extremely tasty, and the timing was flexible. As the stay went on, though, service became frustrating. I had to ask for everything, like towels, room cleaning, and refills of drinking water. Even when I asked politely, staff often didn’t act until I’d tried a few times. Hygiene was concerning too. The bathroom looked much the same after it had supposedly been cleaned, and the dining area was constantly dirty. Noise added to the frustration the longer I stayed. People talked loudly, staff played music, and prayers from the nearby monastery went on for a long time, especially early in the morning. That may be usual in those parts of the world, but it was still difficult. The building also seemed poorly suited to cold or rainy weather. It’s exposed despite the covered areas, and wind blows through the sitting and dining areas and kitchen. Rain leaves the floors, cooking areas, and kitchen surfaces really wet. It can take time and repeated requests before staff clear the puddles. I hope the service improves when they’re fully open. It seems the staff could use some training.
