AZ Family Resort

You can walk straight onto the beach from the accommodation, and locals can access it publicly too. On some of the more developed beaches, access means going through a posh resort or private beach, and many only serve their own hotel guests. This place is at the quiet end of the beach, with beach restaurants nearby, so there's a choice beyond big resorts. The staff are helpful and friendly, the beds are fantastic, and the atmosphere is more relaxed than other places I've visited. It's clean and comfortable, with the warm sea right there, so I didn't miss having a pool. Not marble floors or private pools, but recommended.

The beach is amazing and the location is great. If you're staying nearby, I highly recommend the beach. But I would avoid booking a little cabana at AZ family. The owner's greed made us feel our whole Myanmar holiday could be ruined, and I wouldn't trust this place with international visitors.

The owner was so focused on money and treated us badly, calling us " very stupid men " three times in front of other people. She was impolite and unprofessional, with no customer service or management skills. Because of her, I wouldn't recommend this place. The beach is peaceful and nice, and the basic cabins were decent and clean. Hot water didn't work properly. Breakfast wasn't a big spread, but it was fine.

A lovely beach is only a few metres away. It's not Ngapali's main beach, but we liked it even more. The restaurants and shops on the main beach are about 15 minutes away by bike. Free bikes are available, though an e-bike is quite expensive at 12000 kyat a day, compared with 5000 kyat a day in touristy Bagan. The bungalows are cleaned daily and are nice and tidy. Some have mosquito nets, though we were surprised by how few mosquitoes there were. There's no shelf or other place for belongings, so we had to put things on the floor. I liked that the toilet is in its own room, separate from the shower. We only had hot water in the evening, with cold water during the day. Breakfast could be better. Each day it was one fried egg or a pancake, plus bananas. Still, this was our best accommodation choice in Ngapali.
