Victoria Palace Hotel

There's plenty to do around the hotel on foot, with a 24/7 mini mart, restaurants, a beer bar with barbecue, banks, an ATM, a tea shop, and other stores nearby. The location is really good. The hotel restaurant serves good food too. My room was large, clean, and nice, and the Wi-Fi worked very well. There's an outdoor pool and a gym for guests who want to stay active. The bathroom floor tiles get slippery, though, which could be dangerous for older people and needs improvement.

I had to sit in the lobby for an hour waiting for a room, even though I'd booked it three days earlier. There didn't seem to be enough staff for the number of guests, and they couldn't keep up. The service was awful. I asked reception to warm up some fried chicken I'd bought outside, since it had gone cold. They agreed, took it from my room, then brought it back 30 minutes later still cold. Maybe it was warmed and left sitting on a counter before they returned it, but either way the service did nothing for me and wasted my time. What they call service doesn't feel like service at all.

There were mosquitoes in the room, and in the morning we had no hot water. The towels were dirty, and the balconies had lots of dove droppings. We also found the hotel very poorly soundproofed. They didn't provide free drinking water, which other hotels in Myanmar do, and they didn't even refill the very expensive water in the minibar. Breakfast was just disgusting. We disliked the hotel for all these reasons.

I slept soundly and had a pleasant night. The rooms are large and the location is very convenient. There wasn't a bad smell, and breakfast was okay too.
