My Bagan Residence By Amata

A relaxing place near New Bagan, and highly recommended. The staff were helpful and did their best to make guests feel welcome. Rooms suit different kinds of travel, with facilities above average and most equipment good quality. The pool is a bit small but acceptable. Dinner is served in an open field, with a traditional puppet show included.

The restaurant is open air, which gives it a nice holiday feel. Breakfast had a good choice of Western and Asian dishes, and the omelets were perfectly cooked. We also tried dinner with the Puppet Show. It was delicious and had a lovely outdoor atmosphere, though perhaps pricey compared with local restaurants. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Our large room came with a nice fruit basket as a welcome gift. There's a pleasant pool among lots of trees, but the water was really cold because of the cool weather. The hotel is small and outside the city center, so it's extremely quiet, about a 10-minute walk to New Bagan Main Street.

The hospitality and surroundings were excellent, and the resident manager was brilliant. The restaurant staff were commendable too, congratulations! Resting in the rooms could be difficult at times because of the pigeons disturbing us on the roof. The water purification also needs work. The manager assured us they were addressing both issues.

The location was handy, within walking distance of a few restaurants, and breakfast was served in a pleasant lawn setting, though it was basic. The hotel felt a little run down. There was a faint raw sewage smell in the toilet, and the staff weren't particularly helpful. Their English was very basic. The pool was too small and didn't have enough deck chairs.
