Smile Motel

The decor is quite old, and there's no hot water, though the bed and towels were clean and the air conditioning worked well. We could hear noise from the main road. Breakfast was included, but pretty average: the eggs were cold and had clearly been cooked well before we arrived. It's very basic and the price felt steep, but it could suit a budget traveller staying overnight in Pyay. If your bus arrives after midnight, it may be the best, or only, option. Don't expect much.

Pyay isn't a major tourist destination, so don't expect much from the hotels, though some look nicer from outside. This one has lots of rooms but very few guests. Its breakfast is just a few pieces of one kind of fruit, a cold fried egg, and two small pieces of toast. The hotel is on the town's main street, but traffic is light and it isn't very noisy. Wifi was reliable, cable TV worked, and there was hot water. It's fine for a night or two.

For 23,000 MMK a night, they provide good service and have AC, hot water, a TV, and a refrigerator. The AC is a window unit. There's a nice view of Pagoda, and the motel is close to Pyay Main Station and Night Market. I explored Strand Road looking for a hotel and didn't regret choosing this one. Breakfast isn't included, as is standard for a motel, so I could enjoy local breakfast, salad rice.

We were exhausted after a 7 hour van ride and stopped looking for somewhere else, but paying $32 for this room was horrifying. The room itself was OK, yet this was the worst value accommodation we had in Myanmar. Better to find an alternative.
