The lodge is known for its local sustainability and attentive service. Its bungalows have private fireplaces, and guests can book outings like elephant treks and white-water rafting. Malikha Lodge Hotel,Putao also has an open-plan layout and striking views over the Nam Lang River, making it a comfortable base for exploring the mountains.

The staff were all kind and very helpful, and you can rent bikes or traditional clothes for both men and women. There are activities like cycling, rafting, and camping too. I really liked my room at the Lodge 1, especially the large hot tub in the middle. The room facilities were pretty good. Burmese and Chinese dishes were delicious, apparently because the chef is from Mandalay. The local Kachin food could use some improvement.

The view from the restaurant was the most impressive part, really grand and peaceful. I paid 10,000 kyats to get in and felt it was worth it. There’s also a small zoo with bears, birds, and a monkey. It’s a popular spot for taking photos and having a short rest.

A five-star hotel in northern Myanmar, with a lovely view of the Malikha river and good food at reasonable prices. You can fly there, and in December and January there’s snow at the hotel.

The view of River Malikha from the grounds was breathtaking, and they gave us green tea and biscuits. The grounds are very well maintained and the hotel is well built. We couldn’t afford to stay, but outside visitors can enter for 10,000 MMK pp. A bungalow tour showed us rooms costing c.400 USD a night, far too expensive for the area. A glass of grapefruit juice is 5 USD, so don’t order one unless you’re ready for that price. There were two young bears shut in cages, which looked like a very stressful place for them. I wished I could let them back into the jungle. The hotel also didn’t put commercial tax stamps on our entrance fee and drink receipts. When we asked, the cashier said they didn’t have any, which could let the hotel avoid paying taxes to the government. That says a lot about its ethics. On top of all that, the place is ridiculously expensive for what it is. I’m giving it two stars, and I’ll never go back.
