Orchid Hotel

The only real nuisance was a water pump near our room. It made a lot of noise both day and night. The staff were super nice, gave us plenty of helpful advice, and helped arrange our trip to Mandalay. Breakfast was good. The basic old rooms could use some freshening up, but they were decent for the price, and cleaning was OK.

Friendly staff were always around to help with check-in, checkout, and opening the door. Our large private room had its own bathroom and toilet, a balcony facing the main street, and working air conditioning. The hot shower had only a little water. There are plenty of places of interest within walking distance, with a traditional produce and meat market just outside, eateries nearby, and a City Mart supermarket on the next block. The guesthouse entrance is on the side street behind the City Express convenience store. They offer free airport transport once in the morning and again at 3 pm, which saves at least 7000K.

The location was good, and breakfast was included, though it was light. The room was small. They allowed the local girl to stay in the room overnight. Don't be confused by the "Ocean Pearl 2" sign on the building. At reception, the sign still shows the old name, "Aung Si Guest House".

I've stayed here on two separate trips to Yangon and would happily come back. It's a simple, clean little place with very friendly staff and breakfast included. Nothing fancy, but it's clean for a city like Yangon and not too far from the central railway station. A good option for travelers on a budget.
