Tarona Guest house

The manager’s response to my request for clean towels was rude. He told me to go to a 5-star hotel if I wanted comfort. After I raised the poor condition of the place, he started switching off the air conditioning at night, despite the room being above 30°C. There was no sound insulation, so outside noise made it very hard to sleep. The room was dusty and had insects, and I saw cockroaches around the building. The towels were visibly dirty. From the time I arrived at Tarona Guesthouse, there was also a terrible smell from the bathroom and toilet, and the water made a loud, disturbing noise whenever I turned it on. A very bad stay. I absolutely don’t recommend it.

The only thing I liked was the location, close to the beach and well connected by public transport. I stayed at Tarona Guesthouse for ten days, and the noise from other rooms and the hallway came through constantly. Between that, the smell and the lack of cleanliness, I couldn’t relax. Staff were unhelpful and didn’t respond properly to requests or complaints. The bathroom smelled bad and wasn’t cleaned during my stay. The room was never cleaned either, and the glasses were left dirty and untouched for all ten days. Towels weren’t changed once. The pillowcase was filthy and gave me skin irritation and breakouts, and the mosquito net over the bed was stained and clearly hadn’t been cleaned. Even for a budget place, this level of hygiene is unacceptable. It was the worst accommodation experience I’ve had, and I wouldn’t return or recommend it to anyone who cares about cleanliness, comfort or decent service.

The convenient location was the only good thing about my stay at Tarona Guesthouse. The bathroom smelled so awful that I bought toilet spray as soon as I arrived, but it didn’t help. I found a hair clip on the floor, and the wardrobe was so filthy I wouldn’t risk putting my clothes in it, so they stayed in my suitcase the whole time. The sheets and towels were never changed. When we asked politely for fresh towels, the manager refused and spoke to us aggressively. On our last night, he turned off the air conditioning while the room was 29°C. I messaged him to switch it back on, and he blocked me, so I had to go to the police to sort it out. I’ve attached a photo of the bathroom to show its actual condition. Malta is beautiful, but staying here could ruin your holiday. I strongly do not recommend this place.

The location in Bugibba is really nice, and it’s a cheap place, so you get what you pay for with the just-okay rooms. The air conditioning sometimes malfunctioned in the middle of the day, which was frustrating when I wanted a break from the heat. Housekeeping also sometimes only made the bed without replacing the sheets or bringing fresh towels.
