Grand Hotel Gozo

This was my second time here, and this stay I had one of the upgraded rooms. The bed was luxurious, the white linen high quality, and there was lots of space. The bathroom had a stunning bath, the TV had an HDMI port, the balcony was cute, and the air conditioning worked flawlessly. The hotel deserves its good reputation. The dinners on the menu were super. Breakfast had all the essentials, though there wasn't watermelon every day and the coffee was Beacon. Buses go all over the island for 2 euros. I'll be back!

We stayed for two weeks, but the hotel didn't live up to what the tour operator holidays website advertised. We had booked a sea-view room, yet the view was extremely limited and nothing like the promotional photos. From our balcony we looked onto construction debris, an unfinished building, and a busy road. It was noisy and not somewhere we wanted to sit outside. I've included photos so future guests can see what to expect. We arrived late at night and raised the issue with reception the next morning. They said moving us would be “too difficult” because we'd booked close to the travel date and were staying for two weeks. They called it a large family suite, but that didn't make up for the poor view, especially since there were just two of us. The room clearly didn't match the description we paid for. Couples wanting a reasonably sized room with a sea view should avoid being placed in one of these family rooms. The hotel's condition also differed from floor to floor. The corridor on our 4th floor was very worn and dated, with green and stained cream carpet and old paintwork, as shown in the photo. The higher floors looked more recently refurbished, with red carpet and fresh paint. It gave the impression that guests who don't book direct may receive a different standard of accommodation. I'd make sure to get a room with a proper sea view on floor 5 or above. Our concerns weren't taken seriously, and the room didn't match the listing. After years of travelling, this was one of my more disappointing hotel stays. I hope the hotel reviews these problems and offers a more consistent standard to all guests in future.

Alexandra (maybe that's not how it's spelled) made the best impression when I arrived. She explained everything in detail and really went out of her way to make my stay pleasant. The hotel itself is very nice, and breakfast is good. Thank you so much!

Vladimir at the front desk helped shape our whole itinerary with his enthusiasm and excellent suggestions. He pointed us toward a hidden swimming cove, a family-run place for lampuki pie, and a sunset spot at the Citadel. We felt like welcome guests discovering Gozo for the first time. The rest of the team were just as thoughtful, from the smooth check-in after a late ferry to the extra pillows and plate of local pastizzi in our sea-view room. Housekeeping was discreet and excellent, the breakfast team remembered our coffee preferences, and the concierge arranged a private boat trip at short notice. The room was spacious and spotless, with modern comforts and Maltese character. Seeing fishing boats in the harbor and Comino in the distance each morning was a highlight. We also loved the rooftop pool and terrace for evening drinks as the sun went behind the hills. The Grand Hotel Gozo looks over Mgarr Harbour and the Gozo Channel, and felt like a warm, welcoming center for the island. Our stay made the shift from the busy pace at home to Gozo's relaxed rhythm easy. We've stayed in plenty of lovely places across Malta and Gozo, but this one felt like coming home.
