Villa Del Porto

We had a very pleasant stay. The room was spacious and comfortable, and despite the beds squeaking a little, we still slept well. Breakfast was delicious, and the rooftop terrace was a fantastic place to eat and take in the stunning view at the start of the day. Our host was kind, helpful with anything we needed, and made time to chat with everyone in a friendly way. Getting around was easy from this location, with many main attractions in reach and several restaurants an easy walk away.

The balcony view was genuine and looked like the photos, but the stay was very unhappy. When we arrived during 42-degree heat, half the town had lost power. The host hadn't warned us. For two days there was no air conditioning, light, internet, or way to charge our phones, and we had no way to keep drinking water cold. The shower only had hot water because its supply came from a plastic roof reservoir warmed by the sun. The hosts didn't offer flashlights or help us find somewhere to charge our phones. When we asked, they sent us to another property they managed, even though that place also had no electricity. They had no generator and said they didn't want to invest in one. I believe tourist accommodation should have a generator. No discount was offered for the disruption. Cockroaches were throughout the building, including our room and toilet, and even the rooftop balcony where breakfast was served. The room wasn't very clean either, with spiders and dust on the furniture and wall, and a toilet seat yellowed with dirt and wear. The sink's water stream was very thin, the pressure was low, the shower was broken, and some sockets were already damaged. Breakfast was very poor in my view.

My room faced the port directly, and the balcony view was wonderful. In the evenings it was calm and beautiful, with little boats, stars, and the moon, and I could watch the sunset. I felt much better about staying after messaging the people through booking. Check-in was before 18:00, and there were two people in the small reception area. The place was easy to find, with a great location: Birgu is walkable, and from there you can take a little boat to Valetta. The bus is close too, and there's a nice church nearby. I can't say whether other rooms are as good as mine, but the shared top-floor terrace has the same port view, even better in some spots. I was looking forward to breakfast there the next day. There's also a self-service fridge for your things, a coffee machine, and a kettle. Having the terrace and bringing your own food felt like great value, and the view for the price was excellent. I'm so happy I stayed here and would definitely return and recommend it to others!

The hosts were wonderful. Our ground-floor room was very clean and spacious, and breakfast on the roof terrace was a lovely way to start the day. We had a wifi problem, but the hosts sorted it out right away. I'd gladly recommend this little hotel.
