Harbour Lodge

The location was pretty good, near the harbor and restaurants, and the staff were alright. But the place was very dirty, the room worn out, and the shower pretty bad. Breakfast was very mediocre, and you can hear a lot from the other rooms.

The only small issue we noticed was a loose toilet seat, and I expect it can be replaced once things are less busy. Everything else made our second visit a lovely one. We had to come unexpectedly, but the people at Harbour Lodge found us a place and made us feel very welcome. The staff were friendly and polite, and clearly worked hard. The free taxi service, breakfast, Wi-Fi and TV were all welcome extras. Thank you to everyone there.

I slept well despite seeing plenty of other guests at breakfast, thanks to the good sound insulation between rooms. The hotel also gets the basics right for a fair price: breakfast was tasty, the room was cleaned well when I asked, and I had no trouble getting a hot shower at 06:00. There were no insects in my room, and the balcony had a nice view. Restaurants and bus stops are nearby, and the airport is about an hour's walk away. Breakfast is served in the dining hall from 07:00 to 09:30, not in the room. There are some things to put up with. The shower head has nowhere proper to attach, though I could hang it on a hook and point it away from the wall. One of the two screws on the very loose balcony handle came out, and I was told that closing the balcony doors from outside could leave you unable to get back in. That sounds like a known fault that should be fixed. The balcony lamp fixture had fallen off and was left hanging by exposed wires. There was also a gap of about 1 cm under the room door, which let hall light in at night. In December the room gets quite chilly overnight, though it wasn't freezing.

The neighborhood felt ugly, empty and dirty, and inside wasn't any better. Our room was untidy and dirty, and it hadn't been cleaned. Staff were shouting and making noise early in the morning. Breakfast was identical each day, and some of the food was spoiled. I even saw a cockroach in the bathroom on our last night. I wouldn't recommend staying here.
