The staff were helpful, and the bar prices seemed fair. Everything worked, and they changed the bath towels every day. It’s a budget place with all the basics; a little dated, but clean and tidy. I’d recommend it and would stay again.

We found the hotel good value, with a great location, roomy rooms, and pools and a sauna that were perfectly satisfactory. The beds were firm and comfortable, and most of the hotel’s older features didn’t cause any real problems. The shower was the one frustration for us: it had several issues and was hard to use throughout our trip. That may have been specific to our room, since others in our group said their showers worked wonderfully.

We managed two nights before checking out and booking somewhere else. The apartment felt unsafe for my child because the door locks were faulty, and the place was filthy. There was old food on the hobs, snacks left by previous guests in the cupboards and fridge, and only two working plug sockets. The rooms looked decades out of date, and there was no balcony. It felt as if the housekeeper had given us the worst apartment out of spite after getting our booking wrong. She greeted us rudely, too, and I’m not sure what she actually cleaned. Getting in was ridiculous. The entrance door closes at 4pm, so after that you have to go through Canifor hotel, down to the basement, across the pool area, and up in what seemed like the world’s oldest lift. The best part was the door on the way out. Save your money and time. DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE!! It’s giving prison vibes.

The noise made it impossible to get a decent night’s sleep. Sound carries so much here that I could hear people using the bathroom in other rooms, and every night there was what sounded like a laughing hyena. It was actually people rearranging their rooms, usually between 10pm and 2am. At times it felt like sleeping in a brothel, as if I were right there in the room watching. The place looks lovely from the house side, but the problems start as soon as you step inside. The indoor pool was filthy, with layer after layer of dirt, hair and grime, and the jacuzzi was cold. The ceiling was hanging down and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. There was sand on the pool floor, and a radiator was hanging off the wall beside the wet sunloungers, with torn metal that could badly injure your foot if you slipped. We woke to buckets in the open corridor catching water from a leaking ceiling, which left the tiles slippery. Loose wires tied together stuck out of walls all over the place. The rooms were in bad shape too. The toilet was brown with hard water stains, the fridge roared all night, and there were stains on the bedding. I had the “do not disturb” sign out, but they still came in to “clean.” You also have to pay for a TV remote. The lift felt like something from Final Destination, and its makeshift loose wires didn’t make it reassuring. There’s a storage room for your bags while you wait for your room, but once they give you the key, you’re told to handle it yourself. Anyone could help themselves to someone else’s valuables or knickers. Staff could be hit or miss, and when we left, we were mostly ignored rather than given a friendly goodbye. If you’re waiting for a room, there’s a storage room, which is useful until they hand you the key and leave you to manage it yourself. So much for the advertised four-star rating, I’d say it’s lucky to be half a star. Most restaurants nearby serve English food. Thanks to wowcher mystery holidays for a cracking hotel stay.

The breakfast at the adjoining hotel was the one good thing. Our apartment was dated and smelled damp in the bedroom. The TV seemed ancient, and we only got one towel each. When we asked for more, the receptionist was rude. It was meant to be self-catering, but there was nowhere to plug in the kettle. A power cut on the third day convinced us to book another hotel. It was advertised as three-star, but in our view it deserved zero.
