Marco Polo Malta Hostel

The place was dirty and grimy, and the elevators didn't work, so I had to trudge up two floors in a run-down building. The staff were rude and nasty. When I reported the elevator problem and explained that I'd had knee surgery, manager Ruth was insufferably rude. I left Marco polo hostel and immediately cancelled my stay. The staff's nasty treatment nearly made me want to call the police, but it led me to find FOLLOW THE SUN hostel at the same price, with double the amenities, a lavish breakfast included, a swimming pool, great hangout and work desk areas, and wonderful, helpful staff. Marco polo is the worst hostel I've seen in over 100 countries.

The rooftop was a great place to meet people from all over the world, and the atmosphere at Marco Polo Hostel was incredible. The staff were super friendly, the rooms were clean, and the location was ideal, just a short walk from the beach, shops, and nightlife. It's a great spot whether you want to relax, socialize, or explore Malta. The showers and bathrooms could use some renovation, but everything else more than made up for that. One of the best hostels I've stayed in. I'd recommend it to solo travelers, backpackers, or anyone after a good vibe and lasting memories.

I had a really nice stay at this hostel. It's in a lovely location and the prices are super affordable. Staff handled the issues well when some people in our shared room were inconsiderate and screamed in the early hours, though we still didn't get much sleep. There wasn't much communal space apart from the bar.

Reception staff were helpful, and their instructions were clear. I paid €20 as a key deposit at check-in, and the city tax was €1.5. The toilet and shower rooms were generally clean, as was the room, though it was a bit dilapidated and smelly. It was cheap, and I was lucky that my roommates stayed quiet overnight. I stayed one night, on 1 February 2026. My bed was near the balcony, so traffic on the busy road outside was noisy. Sometimes my roommates went out to smoke and didn't properly close the balcony door, so I had to put up with passive smoking.
