Onyx Suites & Apartments

We had a great time at Onyx Hotel in a two-bedroom apartment, with breakfast and parking included. The location in lively San Ġiljan was excellent, and Valletta is just 10 minutes away. Service was excellent throughout, and breakfast was good. Daily housekeeping was offered, though we didn’t use it every day. They also arranged a birthday cake, which was a lovely touch and much appreciated. Parking took some figuring out at first. It’s on a back street with very tight access, and the basement ramp is quite steep, so take extra care driving in and out.

Hemant made a great impression when we arrived at 3 a.m. He checked us in quickly and gave us useful local recommendations, much appreciated after a long travel day. I stayed one night at Onyx Hotel Malta and was very impressed. The hotel is modern, clean, and central, and the furniture and fixtures all seemed brand new. The bed was extremely comfortable, with a thick duvet and four hypoallergenic pillows. I slept really well. Nice practical touches included USB ports by the bed and desk, plus USA and EU plug options in the bathroom. The shower didn’t drain properly, but everything else was excellent. I’d absolutely stay again and recommend it to anyone visiting St. Julian’s.

We got a small complimentary upgrade to a junior suite, which was a lovely start to the trip, and check-in itself was quick and easy. The room was spacious, clean, and had everything we needed. Breakfast was simple but had what we needed before heading out to explore the island. There weren’t any fried eggs on the first morning, but the staff kindly made some for us when we asked. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout, and everything else went really well. A few things affected our comfort: we could hear noise from both other rooms and the street, the room was too warm even in February and needed adjustable temperature, and the smoke detector above the bed flashed every 20 minutes, which was uncomfortable overnight. Still, it’s a charming small hotel and good value in the heart of Saint Julian’s. Recommended.

The rooftop pool terrace was a highlight, with lovely views and a place to relax. The location is close to main attractions, restaurants, shops, and nightlife, yet the surroundings were peaceful during our stay. At Onyx Hotel, the rooms were spacious, modern, and exceptionally clean. The comfortable beds and pleasant atmosphere made them feel homely. Service was top-notch, especially the receptionists, who were friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist. We’d recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, enjoyable, high-quality stay in Malta.
