Downtown Hotel

The courtesy bus was a real plus. It runs Monday to Friday and takes you to a different beach each day, which let us see how varied the coast is. We stayed for a week, then added another night at the last minute. The hotel was generally very clean, and the staff were cheerful and always ready to help. The maids were friendly and chatty too, with daily room service. We ate at the café every night but one. The food was good value and we really liked the pizzas. The menu is big but pretty basic. The waiters told us a small pizza is almost the same size as a large one, though my boyfriend still ordered both sizes on consecutive nights just to check. The rooms are on the small side, and the balconies even smaller, but that’s what you’d expect at a 3-star hotel.

It was an easy walk to the Citadel, which is well worth seeing, and the hotel was close to both shops and a supermarket. Staff were friendly, breakfast was good, and the stay was great value. The rooms were standard, with a bed, TV, minibar, separate bathroom and balcony. The rooftop pool was there, but the water was cold and solar heating would have helped. Downstairs, a bowling alley and arcade area with alcohol opened at 6pm. I enjoyed staying here.

The immediate surroundings aren’t especially attractive, but this was a good value base for seeing the rest of Gozo. My room was plain and clean, the air conditioning worked, and I slept well. A simple, practical hotel.

Breakfast was plentiful and tasty, and the staff were quick to help with anything. Our room was clean and tidy, though just okay, with a street view that wasn’t much to look at. The Downtown Hotel is nearly a 10-minute walk from the bus station, so it’s not the most central option. My wife and I would recommend it for a short visit of a day or two. ****
