The host was friendly, showed us around the area and answered our messages when we needed help. The apartment is close to Flic en Flac beach, with a large supermarket right across from the property. There’s also a cash machine, a car hire and travel excursions company, and some decent restaurants and bars nearby. Inside, it was spacious and clean, with two large bedrooms and fairly comfortable beds, a roomy lounge, dining area and kitchen. The kitchen had a fridge, kettle, cooker, microwave, plates, cups and other utensils. Air-conditioning worked in both bedrooms and the lounge, and there was a washing machine. The apartment has its own compound and parking spot, which felt secure. It was quiet at night, though we heard music from the nearby bar on weekends. It wasn’t too loud. The flat is on the first floor, and without a lift we had to carry our bags up two sets of stairs. A few things could be better. Ants were all over the flat, though otherwise it was relatively clean. The shower head was in bad shape and leaked everywhere. One morning there was no hot water. We contacted the host, who arrived after about an hour and said the solar-powered boiler hadn’t charged enough. He switched it to electric mode, but the water didn’t warm quickly, so we had cold showers and were delayed getting to our activities. Things were fine on the remaining days; I think he set a timer to heat the water with electricity early in the morning.

I always choose this apartment when I come to Mauritius, and I keep recommending it. It feels like home, with lots of space and lovely decor. The beach is just two minutes away, and shops and other amenities are close by. The price is great for what you get, there’s secure parking, and the owner does everything he can to meet your needs. A really nice place to stay.

We had to cancel our month-long booking about two weeks before arrival, after paying the landlord a 50% deposit upfront. He agreed to refund it, but I’m still waiting. He hasn’t answered my emails or phone calls. I’d warn others not to pay a deposit. In my view, he’s dishonest and has stolen my money.

We’ve decided to come back. The apartment has good security and private parking, and there’s a police station about 50 metres away. The beach is 100 metres away, with a shopping arcade 20 metres away that has a supermarket and restaurant. There are plenty more restaurants along the beach. The owner was very helpful, and this was the best place in Flic en Flac for us.
