Domaine de Grand Baie

We were a family of 10 for the weekend and booked three rooms. The two-room setup and big terrace worked well, and the rooms were spacious. Staff were warm, polite and helpful, and the indoor pool and jacuzzi were clean and well maintained. We especially liked relaxing by the outdoor pool, where the water was body temperature. Lunch and dinner had lots of choice and were very good, especially the lalo-crevettes, my favorite. The hotel isn't on the beach, but a free transfer takes you to Mon Choisy beach in 5-10 minutes. A great stay, and we'd definitely come back.

We had an average stay at Domain de g.baie. The location is good and the staff were great, and the hotel itself is beautiful. I'd like to return, but there are several things the management needs to address. The room was large and had air conditioning, which was good. But the sofa and bedroom pillowcases, pillows and decorative fabrics all needed washing. They smelled bad and had turned a dirty gray. There was also some disgusting liquid on the bedsheet, and even the towels smelled unpleasant. It didn't feel hygienic. The restaurant food wasn't tasty and there wasn't enough variety. It seemed to be pasta, curry, rice and lamb every day. Beef and pork shouldn't be put side by side on the same table, as that's not appropriate for Muslims. Nothing from breakfast through dinner felt worth the price. With half board, some drinks should be included, and having to pay for water at dinner didn't feel fair. Since the hotel isn't on the beach and has no boat house, it should offer a kids' club and activities for families. These are important, and the kids' club shouldn't be an extra charge, since it's usually free at hotels. The outdoor pool also needs better filtration and hygiene. When I tried swimming with a diving mask, the first thing I saw was a cigarette, followed by lots of dirt. The sauna needs an electrician to look at it. Water gets near the oven, which could be dangerous when people come in wet, and the oven should be raised off the ground. I had a mishap during my stay, but the staff turned it into a joke. I won't go into detail, since they aren't technicians. I hope the hotel updates these things. It has a lot of potential, and I'd love to come back if they do.

The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the rooms were good with working air conditioning. The location is fine, but getting to a beach means a 2-5 km walk or taking a shuttle. Towel replacement was confusing from one day to the next. Breakfast needs serious improvement: the quality wasn't great, and the coffee machines seem to be permanently out of order. Food and drinks at the hotel are very expensive.

The room was really spacious, and the amenities were nice. We enjoyed the good breakfast and great service. The beach isn't very close, and the shuttle only runs three or four times a day and books up quickly. I'd come back.
